Therapy

Our therapy department offers a variety of ways to treat and alleviate pain. Treatments include spinal and joint rehabilitation, therapeutic exercises, manual therapies, spinal decompression and palliative therapies.

Exercise
There are tremendous benefits of exercise therapy. Exercise helps prevent injury, ward off systemic disease, and makes people feel happier, healthier, and stronger! With regard to injury, exercise helps strengthen muscles and joints to decrease the chances of injury. We offer a variety of strengthening and stretching exercises to help people get out of pain and stay out of pain.

Manual Therapy
Manual therapy helps alleviate musculoskeletal tension, pain and headaches, and it improves range of motion by increasing joint flexibility. It helps reduce muscle spasm, tightness, and cramping while breaking up adhesions and scar tissue formation. Other benefits of manual therapy include improving blood/oxygen circulation that helps keep tissues and organs healthy. It promotes a healthier immune system, helps decrease stretch marks, and helps relieve depression.

Spinal Decompression Therapy
Decompression therapy is non-surgical and highly effective solution for low back, neck, and radiating leg and arm pain. Decompression therapy relieves pain associated with disc herniations, degenerative discs, and posterior facet (joint) related issues by reducing the pressure on spinal discs, nerves, and joints. This is achieved by gently stretching the spine and opening up spaces between bones that are compressed or irritated.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound is a physical therapy procedure that uses sound waves for healing injuries or pain that occurs in the soft tissues, muscles, or joints. When applied to the injured area, the sound waves help reduce swelling, increase blood flow to speed up healing, and decrease pain, stiffness, and muscle spasms.

EMS (electrical muscle stimulation)
Electric muscle stimulation therapy is a pain relieving therapy that utilizes electrical currents. A machine generates electrical impulses that are transmitted to the body or area of pain/spasm through electrodes. The electrical current helps alleviate and reduce pain as well as breaking up muscle tension or spasm. The patient will feel a slight tingling sensation that will gradually become stronger and will be set to a level of comfort.

Hot/Cold Therapy
Many people overlook the incredible benefits of icing or heating an injured area. Ice is often more effective as a pain reliever after an acute or sudden type of injury. Ice helps decrease pain and swelling while decreasing inflammation. Ice should be used after acute injuries or for the first 48 hours. Heat should be used for chronic issues or injuries after the first 48 hours. Heat helps relax and loosen muscles as well as looses joint areas associated with arthritis. Heat helps bring more blood flow to the area and promotes faster healing. When icing or heating, never apply either one to the area for more than 20 minutes at a time. More than 20 minutes of each modality may cause increased pain or stiffness.
